Preference center
Beyond the cookie banner's necessary/preferences/statistics/marketing categories, most sites also collect standing marketing preferences — newsletter, SMS, profiling consent — that live outside the banner's lifecycle. Dashboard → Privacy → Preferences is where you look up and edit a specific subject's preferences on their behalf (e.g. when they email you asking to be unsubscribed from something the banner doesn't cover).
Looking up a subject
Enter any identifier the subject is known by — email address, account ID, or another reference you use internally — and click Look up.
If a record exists, its current purposes load with their granted/denied state.
If nothing is found, a fresh record is prepared with every known purpose defaulted to denied, and a No record on file badge shows so you know you're creating, not editing.
Purpose set
Out of the box, four purposes are recognized with friendly labels; any other purpose key you save is displayed as-is:
Purpose key | Label |
|---|---|
| Email marketing |
| Newsletter |
| SMS |
| Profiling |
Each purpose renders as a switch. Toggle any combination, then Save preferences to persist the change.
Note: This tool edits the record of preference, not the delivery systems themselves (your ESP, SMS provider, etc.) — pair it with your own automation if you need those toggles to actually suppress sends.
When to use this vs. the DSAR flow
Use Preference center for routine, non-statutory "please update my marketing preferences" requests — it's a direct edit, no due-date tracking.
Use DSAR requests when the ask is a formal, regulation-backed access/deletion/rectification/portability request that needs an auditable due date and status trail.
